Each has a series of measures, such as redundant hard drives and uninterruptible power supplies, for reliability - and, for extra peace of mind, any campaign data is backed up daily over a secure internet link, with copies made to tape every week.

1. reliability
Data is stored twice on separate hard drives, so that your information survives - and the application continues to work - even if one drive fails completely. Nightly backups are made to a third drive, with weekly backups taken off server. The machines are monitored continually for RAID disk health, disk space and partition usage, I/O performance, memory usage, processor load, network services and bandwidth requirements.
2. security
Network ports are monitored to prevent hacking and denial of service attacks; the system log files are also manually audited for unusual behaviour. The servers are in a locked cabinet with 24 hour manned CCTV; VESDA (very early smoke detection apparatus) and gas systems avoid fire hazards. Upgrades and security patches are added immediately in response to industry advisories.
3. peace of mind
An engineer is on duty 24/7 to ensure our servers remain online; in fact, we guarantee that they operate at least 99.9 per cent of the time. The servers have a UPS redundant power system providing uninterruptible power. Crashes are rare, especially under Linux, but in any event the system can usually be reset immediately or, at worst, within sixty minutes. Even the most serious hardware fault, during a holiday period, is corrected within a couple of hours.
4. redundancy
We maintain a series of failsafe machines to catch any incoming email and store them in the rare event that your server does go down, so that no emails are bounced back to the sender. These servers operate at a different facility, on a different network, under a different operating system for increased resilience.
